Here are the answers to frequenly asked questions I have heard over the past decade from the patients of my Detroit-area cosmetic surgery practice and medical spa.
Q - What is laser eyelid rejuventation?
Laser eyelid rejuventation by an experienced cosmetic surgeon like myself - also called laser blepharoplasty - is an advanced method of surgical transformation for the upper and lower eyelids. It offers both functional and cosmetic improvement for patients of all ages with heavy, drooping eyelids.
Vibrant, youthful eyes are revealed after laser eyelid rejuvenation. Many are able to see better... even though they did not realize excess sagging tissue was impairing their peripheral vision.
Some patients report not only looking more alert & energetic - but also feeling rejuvenated. And the majority are amazed by how dramatically this procedure changes their entire appearance.
Q - Why is a laser used - instead of traditional techniques?
Laser eyelid rejuventation offers many advantages over traditional methods, including:
No visible scarring
Minimal bruising, swelling, or bleeding
Quickly resume most activities
Comfortable recovery - often requiring nothing more then ice packs & Tylenol
My patients are able to enjoy natural-looking, attractive results... often in less then 21 days.
Q - Is it possible for sagging upper eyelid tissue to block your vision?
Yes! in fact, this is such a common problem that we have a test to help determine if this is happening to you. We are able to detect your current field of vision and compare what you currently see to what we would expect you to be able to see following the removal of this excess tissue. if enough improvement is gained, your medical insurance may consider this procedure not only cosmetic - enhancing but medically necessary - meaning they would pay for your surgery.
Q - Why have surgery now if your insurance company may pay in the future (if your sagging eyelids block your vision)?
Surgical correction is an incredibly wise investment. The great majority of patients are thrilled with the results even before they are fully recovered and often express disappointment in not having surgery years ago.
And the puffiness and dark, wrinkled bags under your eyes are always a cosmetic enhancement - meaning your insurance company will not likely consider this correction a covered service. Yet, you will look years younger.
Q - Should you have both upper and lower eyelids done together?
You can have either the upper or lower eyelids done together or seperately. If your problem areas are more prominent in one region then you will only need one area done. However, most patients find they get more dramatic results and a more symmetrical appearance if both areas are done at the same time.
Q - Does laser eyelid rejuvenation surgery hurt?
With the use of an anethetic you will experience almost no discomfort during the procedure. Following surgery, your post-operative pain is very slight. Most patients need nothing more then Tylenol and ice to ease and pain or discomfort.
Q - How long will surgery take?
The length of time needed depends on if you are having both upper and lower eyelids done. Usually your procedure will only take about an hour to 90 minutes.
Q - Are there any scars?
Scarring is very minimal in the upper eyelid area because the incision is made in the natural crease and folds of the eyelids. Typically after a few months the fine scar becomes an almost invisible white line. there is absolutely no visible scar on the lower lid.
Q - Can eyelid surgery get rid of my wrinkles and crow's feet?
No! Blepharoplasty cannot get rid of wrinkles or crow's feet. Other procedures such as laser resurfacing and Botox injections can be used to solve these concerns. Fortunately for our patients, resurfacing is included (when appropriate) at no extra charge when I perform lower eyelid surgery.
